Prior to delving into her yoga practice, Sabine began her studies in therapeutic bodywork in the mid-eigthies. She became a Trager© practioner, having studied directly under Milton Trager, the originator of this method. The Trager approach is a gentle, non-intrusive yet very powerful approach to realignment.
Next she went on to study Orthopedic Massage—a form of deep tissue massage—with Tom Hendrickson D.C. Orthopedic Massage is very successful in treating chronic pain/tightness caused by old injuries, faulty posture and bad habits. Most of her sessions are based on this work.
By the late eighties—before lymphatic massage became a household name—she went back to Europe, trained and got certified in Dr. Vodder's Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) at the Alpenbad Clinic in Austria. She began working as an MLD therapist at Aurora Medical, the first lymphedema clinic in the U.S., which just had opened its doors. This was the first time, that MLD became available in the US in a medical setting for lymphedema patients. For the next eight years she worked at Aurora Medical, treating patients and educating healthcare practioners about lymphedema and its treatment.
While in Austria, she had the opportunity to take classes with Ingrid Stoddard D.O. (England) in Spinal Mobilization. Thus began her interest in osteopathy. When she began studying cranio-sacral work with Hugh Milne D.O. (Scotland), she became intrigued by the subtleness, barely palpable rhythm of cranio-sacral pulsation. One of Sabine's specialties is a combination of MLD and cranio-sacral release, very effective for a multitude of symptoms like TMJ, sinus congestion/infection, swellings, headaches, chronic colds to name a few.
From the subtle pulsation of the cranio-sacral rhythm to the minute intrinsic movements of the visceral body was the next step in her journey of the discovery of the subtle body. She began studying Visceral Mobilization with the Upledger Institute in Florida.
Today her work consists of three pillars, which very much influence each other: Iyengar Yoga, Therapeutic Bodywork and Ayurveda (consultations/Ayurvedic massage/Pancha Karma).
The Trager Approach
A non-intrusive, painless yet powerful approach to realignment.
Training: Trager Institute, Mill Valley
Orthopedic Massage
Includes joint-play, deep transverse friction massage and slow, broad connective tissue strokes. This method is successful with chronic and acute physical problems.
Training: Tom Hendrickson, D.C., the East Bay
Dr. Vodder's Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD)
Performed in Europe for a variety of indications including respiratory congestion, acute and chronic swellings, migraines, and detoxification. MLD consists gentle, rhythmical “pump and push” strokes.
Training: Hildegard Wittlinger, Austria
Cranio-Sacral Therapy
Restores the balance betwwen the cranial bones which are easily disturbed by any kind of trauma to the head resulting in a number of symptoms throughout the body.
Training: Hugh Milne, D.O. (Scotland), U.S
The Upledger Institute, Miami, Florida
Visceral Manipulation (VM)
An osteopathic modality, is based on the concept that healthy organs/viscera move, similar to the crainio-sacral rhythm. If organs are compromised, and scar tissue forms, this movement changes or diminishes. By applying gentle mobilization, VM aims to restore health to organs by re-establishing this inherent movement.
Training: The Upledger Institute, Miami, Florida
